The works of religious content presented in a solo exhibition after studying abroad show that her world of work is progressing in a different direction than before. While the artist gives this series of works the title <Message>, the method of expression is gradually shifting from the existing sculpture to the installation trend. At that time, the message of God that Young-churl Shim was trying to uncover is generally represented as a spear containing the light of salvation. The window is treated as if it is open to the inside, revealing a wounded soul or traces of suffering and agony. The marks engraved like the traces of a whip on the surface of a window made of wood panels, contribute to linking the physical properties of wood with the image of a wound and reinforce the narrative of the cross that occupies space through the thickness of the window. Gradually, these window images are expanded to three-dimensional images using holograms, emphasizing the effect of light and presenting a symbolic message of life and salvation.
Meanwhile, the installation work of the <Message> series culminates in the work of stacking 1500 Bible books in a pyramid shape, or unfolding them with neon. This is also staged. Although the work of visual representation of these messages do not deviate from the category of narrative, it has been established as an active method that attempts to combine religion and art, contributing to the formation of the artist's image.
