Sculptor Young-Churl Shim to present 'Secret Garden' at the 2018 Korean Art Festival > Media

'KAFA International Art Fair' is a large-scale exhibition with over 15,000 works of art exhibited by 2,000 domestic and foreign artists, popular artists and celebrities, covering all fields of art such as painting, sculpture, craft, sculpture, and calligraphy. 

Young-Churl Shim, who submitted a large-scale work in this exhibition, said, "As I became president of female sculptors to make it a dynamic year for female sculptors, I ought to show what level of work of Korean female sculptors are capable of demonstrating, through art museum-level exhibitions or large-scale exhibitions. I thus came up with a large-scale work with the intention of showing how good their works are.”

The Secret Garden series exhibited at KAFA is a work that applies the concept of a garden that continues to evolve. Although Shim believes in creationism, when it comes to art, her work combines the concept of evolution with artistic activity that changes into a function or structure suitable for the surrounding environment.

In this new garden, the artist shows a diffuse formative consciousness that goes far beyond our limits, by unraveling the artistic experiences and senses accumulated through long work activities into a grand theme of human beings, the universe, and life.

Shim said, “This is because virtual space is a spiritual yet four-dimensional space that cannot be seen visually.” My work shows the spiritual space and the new world, and the exhibition runs until October 7^th.
