On a clear autumn day leading to the stepping stone holidays, including the Chuseok holiday, it would be a good idea to go to an art museum. At the same time, an exhibition worth visiting with children is being held in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, and attracting attention. The Matrix Garden by Young-Churl Shim was prepared for the 30th anniversary of the Korean Museum of Art, the birthplace of Nam-June Paik's video art.

Young-Churl Shim is an artist who has dealt with large subjects such as humans, religion, the universe, life, and the environment. She is also an artist who has grown up receiving recognition from the art world for her experimental attempts, to actively utilize media and works on a large scale that can be seen as architectural.

The works presented this time clearly show that her world of work has entered a new era. In this new garden, the artist unleashes the artistic experiences and senses accumulated over the years of her work in a grand thematic sense, showing a diffuse formative consciousness that goes far beyond the limits of our predictions.

"Not only has the concept changed, but the garden is also continuing to evolve. I believe in creation, but I am in favor of the concept of evolution only when it comes to art."

As the artist said, <Matrix Garden> suggests a new developmental phase as an evolved state of the previous <Electronic Garden>(1992), <Monumental Garden>(2002), and <Secret Garden>(2006). In order to convey the message that the problems of humans and life can freely cross the vertical and horizontal axes of thinking and perception, and can be infinitely expanded into other, more profound dimensions, she chose the theme of <The Matrix Garden> for this exhibition.

Many of the works depicted in this exhibition have the characteristic that they not only induce visual appreciation, but also allow the viewer to become both the object and the subject of the work, allowing them to form an artistic consensus on their own.

The most important work among the submitted works is an installation called <Flower of Light>. In this work, which looks like a bunch of grapes by connecting silver beads one by one, the artist expresses the sublimation of all the pain she has suffered as if she were dreaming.

This <Matrix Garden>, which induces viewers to experience synesthesia such as sight, hearing, and touch, shows that her art world has finally blossomed. Overseas art circles, such as Rome and Paris, show great interest in her art world, which she said was inspired by Nam-June Paik's work, and are receiving love calls for an exhibition.

The works will be on display until October 24. (031)283-6418
